Bethany, the owner grew up on an Australian native wildflower farm. The farm is made up of beautiful bush land and fields of all kinds of Australian native flowers and foliage. While studying painting and sculpture at university in Sydney Bethany was very lucky to work for a very talented florist, learning to combine her love for flowers and art. She moved to London and continued to work with skilled florists and be inspired by flower work across Europe. Bethany missed working with Australian native flowers, so she moved to Sydney and opened BESS in October 2018. She loves combining the Australian wildflowers with and all kinds of locally grown seasonal flowers. “I am proud and thankful for my family’s history in flowers and excited to continue the celebration of Australian natives in Paddington with BESS!”

What do you think the ultimate bunch of flowers for mum should include?

“Flowers for mum should be what resembles your mum best. Whether she is the traditional Mother’s Day flower lover of Carnations or Chrysanthemums (mums) or she’s a natives or Tulip lover, the bouquet for your mum should be about her.

I am fortunate to see the many beautiful and truly amazing arrangements that our team of talented florists create daily, but the one that stands out for me the most this week whilst I’m preparing Mother’s Day arrangements to launch on our website “Just for Mum”, the free flowing whimsical feeling, reminds me of the love a mother has when giving birth to her child, the open roses resembling her smile.”
